New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes from circulation on Friday (May 19). This decision has been taken under the 'Clean Note Policy'. But why was the decision to demonetise this big note within just 7 years? Many types of questions are being asked regarding this. Meanwhile, now Nripendra Mishra, former Principal Secretary to PM Modi has said that the Prime Minister did not want to bring 2000 note at all.
According to the report, former Principal Secretary Nripendra Mishra said that after demonetisation in 2016, PM Modi did not want such a big note to come in the market, but after closing the 1000 rupee note, it was released as a short term move. He said that Prime Minister Modi believed that the Rs 2,000 note was not suitable for day-to-day transactions. Along with this, it can also promote black money and tax evasion. From the very beginning, the Prime Minister thought that there should be low-value notes in the market, so that the people would be comfortable.
Let us inform that, RBI had already reduced the printing of 2000 notes. 2000 notes were also not coming out from the ATM. The circulation of these notes was first reduced and then from 30 September 2023, it was announced to stop them completely. On this, Nripendra Mishra said, 'This step of RBI is not like demonetisation, but it is a routine process.'
Nripendra Mishra further said that the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes reflects the modular building approach of Prime Minister Modi. Its printing was stopped in 2018-19 itself. This note was issued after the demonetisation of 500 and 1000 notes. When 500, 200 and 100 notes came in the market, these notes were reduced. Finance Secretary T Somanathan said that this is not a demonetisation-like decision and it is not going to have any impact on the economy.
