India has delivered 30 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Palestine, providing essential medical supplies to the conflict-stricken region. This recent shipment includes life-saving drugs and anti-cancer medications aimed at helping the Palestinian population.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the shipment on the platform X, affirming India’s continued support for the people of Palestine. This is India’s second consignment, following an earlier delivery of 30 tonnes of medical supplies and food items sent on October 22 through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). The first shipment also included surgical tools, dental supplies, general medical items, and high-energy biscuits.
India has extended similar support to other areas in the region affected by recent conflicts. On October 18, India sent 11 tonnes of medical supplies to Lebanon, with plans to provide a total of 33 tonnes of aid to assist communities affected by rising violence in southern Lebanon.
India’s long-standing support for the Palestinian cause dates back to 1974, when it became the first non-Arab country to officially recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the representative of the Palestinian people. In 1988, India was among the first nations to recognize the Palestinian State, establishing a Representative Office in Gaza in 1996 before relocating it to Ramallah in 2003.
The ongoing crisis has heightened the need for international support for UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), which recently renewed its mandate, emphasizing the critical need for peacekeeping efforts as the conflict escalates.
