Preparations are in full swing at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneshwar for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Odisha Chief Minister scheduled for June 10. The event is expected to draw approximately 30,000 attendees.
Leaders from the NDA, including Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi, Minister Amit Shah, and others, are likely to grace the occasion.
Following a significant defeat in the State Assembly and Parliamentary elections, the 24-year tenure of BJD chief Naveen Patnaik as Chief Minister of Odisha has come to a close. Patnaik submitted his resignation to Odisha Governor Raghubar Das at the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar last Wednesday.
Reflecting on the election outcome in Odisha, Patnaik urged party leaders to maintain close contact with the people and focus on the state's development. He emphasized the importance of maintaining good relations with constituents and staying informed about their concerns.
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which has governed Odisha since 1997, faced a defeat against the BJP in the recent elections, bringing an end to Naveen Patnaik's long-standing tenure as Chief Minister.
In the 147-seat assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 78 seats, surpassing the majority mark of 74, while the BJD won 51 seats. Additionally, in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP performed strongly by winning 20 out of 21 parliamentary seats in the state, with the remaining one seat going to the Congress.
