NEW DELHI: Kuldeep Yadav, a left-arm wrist-spinner for India, said he was not at all disappointed about not being selected for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, which begins this month in Australia. He said he is working on his procedures on a match-by-match basis in addition to gaining more confidence.
"I am not disappointed (that I was not chosen for the T20 World Cup) because I am improving my procedure match by match. I'm evaluating where I can grow. My self-assurance increased following the IPL. I travelled to the West Indies and did great bowling there." "I recently bowled brilliantly for India A and in Zimbabwe as well. I've always been self-assured. Wickets, or the lack thereof, do not accurately reflect my level of confidence. I was bowling as good as I wanted to throughout the series. My self-assurance has increased, "said Kuldeep at the press conference following the game.
Kuldeep was out for a considerable amount of time after having surgery for a knee injury he sustained in the second half of the IPL 2021. Following his comeback in the ODIs against the West Indies, Kuldeep excelled for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022, taking 21 wickets to rank sixth overall in the league.
He was forced to skip a short series against Ireland, a trip to England, and five T20 Internationals against South Africa due to a hand injury. Kuldeep has been playing at his best ever since making a comeback in five T20I matches against the West Indies. After returning from injury, he said that working diligently on his rhythm and making no compromises with regard to his ball-spinning skills is helping him achieve the required outcomes.
"Since recovering from my accident, I've worked on improving my rhythm. I was able to speed up my delivery because of this. Earlier, I would utilise my shoulder to impart pace to the ball. However, I now have the rhythm to change the tempo. I gained confidence because to the IPL. But getting the ball to spin has always been my main priority. I won't give in on the spin. I'm working on it because I'm getting good turn and batters aren't having as much time to play the deliveries."Â
Kuldeep ended by describing the differences between bowling in the 20-over and 50-over formats after helping India win the ODI series by seven wickets in New Delhi on Saturday. "I became aware of the distinction between bowling in ODIs and T20Is during the IPL and the ensuing T20 matches I participated in. My pace and rhythm during my first game in Zimbabwe were in keeping with the T20 format."Â
"The batter has a lot of time to play a shot and won't play many of them, so I suddenly had to alter. Therefore, I had to come to the realisation that changing my tempo was crucial, much like switching between slow and fast is crucial apart from the difference in flighting and the batter attempting to score runs against you." "You must continue hitting the proper distances in T20s. It is extremely uncommon to fly the deliveries, even though you might want to do so if the batter is under pressure. I try to strike the length as much as I can and at the same speed because there is so much cricket around and the IPL, which prevents the batter from having time to play. It's really different in ODIs because pace variation is crucial."
