Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government issued new guidelines on Wednesday to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus in schools. The new guideline aims to make COVID norms explicit in schools in the face of a rising rate of infection among children. A total of 102 children aged 0-18 years old have tested positive for the coronavirus so far, out of 762 new cases. Since Tuesday, there has been a slight decrease in the number of children infected (September 7). On Tuesday and Wednesday (September 8), the infection rate among youngsters was 14.57 and 13.38, respectively.

After a few students and teachers in the Dhenkanal and Bargarh districts tested positive for COVID-19 infection, the School and Mass Education Department issued new guidelines on Tuesday. Fresh covid infections have been reported in 29 districts, bringing the state's total caseload to 10,13,567. According to a health official, another eight people have died, bringing the total death toll to 8,070.

A COVID monitor, preferably the school's PET, will be required to ensure that social distance norms are strictly followed. Any student, teacher, or staff member who exhibits even minor symptoms must be kept out of the classroom. Thermal screening and the availability of sanitizer at the entry should also be provided, according to the notice. It said that students, instructors, and other staff members must all wear masks when entering schools where students in grades 9, 10, and 12 are present.

No kid should be forced to participate in physical education classes. Classes will continue to be held both in-person and online. Between August 10 and August 31, 39 children died in the second wave of the epidemic, with 13 fatalities recorded between August 10 and August 31.
