New Delhi is preparing to host the 44th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on September 8. The assembly will mark a significant milestone as Randhir Singh is set to be announced as the first Indian president of the OCA. Singh, the current acting president, is the sole candidate for the role.

The event will take place at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre, and will see the attendance of prominent figures including Randhir Singh, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, and sports leaders from all 45 Asian countries.

The assembly's agenda includes the election of new leaders, with positions available for the President and Vice-Presidents representing East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia. Voting will be conducted by secret ballot.

Randhir Singh expressed his pride in hosting the assembly in New Delhi. "It is a great honor for India to host the OCA General Assembly. We look forward to welcoming distinguished guests from around the world and are confident that this event will chart a new course for Olympic sports across Asia," Singh stated.

In the lead-up to the assembly, a press conference will be held at ITC Maurya on September 5. The conference will feature Deputy Director General of the OCA, Vinod Kumar Tiwari, and Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha, alongside Randhir Singh.

At the recent Paris Olympics, India placed 71st in the medal standings, while the United States topped the chart with 126 medals.
