NEW DELHI: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has changed its books, excluding chapters on the Mughal empire from the history textbook for the 12th grade. The modification will be applicable for all the schools that follow NCERT syllabus across the country.
The history textbook "Themes of Indian History-Part 2" has chapters on "Kings and Chronicles; the Mughal Courts (C. 16th and 17th centuries)" deleted for Class 12. Similarly, NCERT will also delete a few passages and poetry from the Hindi textbooks.
According to NCERT, all modifications will be put into effect starting with the 2023–2024 academic year.
The 12th class Civics textbook has also been changed, along with the history and hindi texts. The book no longer contains the two chapters titled "The Cold War Period" and "American Hegemony in International Politics."
Two chapters from the Class 12th textbook "Indian Politics after Independence," titled "Rise of Popular Movements" and "Period of One Party Domination," have also been eliminated.
The textbooks for classes 10 and 11 have also undergone changes. For example, the class 10 textbook "Democratic Politics-2" has had the chapters on "Democracy and Diversity," "Popular Struggles and Movements," and "Challenges of Democracy" removed.
In the "Themes in Global History" textbook for Class 11, chapters like "Central Islamic Regions," "Clash of Cultures," and "Industrial Revolution" have been removed.
Senior officials confirmed these modifications and stated that the modified textbooks and curriculum are being used in many schools as of this year.
