As the US presidential election nears, tech billionaire Elon Musk is hosting events to back former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate. At a recent event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Musk promised to give away $1 million every day until election day to anyone who signs his online petition supporting the US Constitution. During the event, he awarded the first $1 million check to an attendee named John Dreher.
This initiative is part of Musk’s effort to influence the competitive presidential race between Trump and Democratic opponent Kamala Harris. The petition encourages signers to pledge their support for the First and Second Amendments, which guarantee freedom of speech and the right to bear arms.
Attendees at the event were required to sign the petition, allowing Musk’s political action committee, America PAC, to collect contact information for potential voters to help mobilize support for Trump.
As Musk presented the check to Dreher, he remarked, “By the way, John had no idea. So anyway, you're welcome.”
Musk established America PAC to support Trump's campaign, focusing on mobilizing and registering voters in crucial battleground states. During this Harrisburg event—his third in three days—Musk warned that if Harris wins the election, it could be “the last election,” suggesting dire consequences for the future of the United States.
He also commented on the two assassination attempts against Trump, arguing that they indicate Trump's disruptive influence on the political landscape. “Assassinating a puppet is worthless,” Musk stated, echoing sentiments he has shared in previous social media posts.
