Mumbai will witness significant processions and events from December 5 to December 7 as part of the 68th Mahaparinirvan Diwas, honoring Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his death anniversary. To manage the large influx of visitors and ensure smooth traffic, Mumbai Police has issued an advisory detailing road closures, no-parking zones, and alternative routes for commuters.

Heavy Crowds Expected at Chaitya Bhoomi
Thousands of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s followers are expected to visit Chaitya Bhoomi in Dadar during the three-day event from December 4 to December 7. Mumbai Police, in its advisory, said that traffic movement around Chaitya Bhoomi, Shivaji Park, and Dadar will be heavily affected during this period.

Road Closures and Alternative Routes

Roads Closed for Vehicular Traffic:

  • Swatantrayaveer Savarkar Road: Closed between Shri Siddhivinayak Temple Junction and Hinduja Hospital.
  • Alternative Route: Commuters can take a left from Yes Bank Junction and proceed via Pandurang Naik Road to Rajabade Chowk.
  • SK Bole Road: One-way traffic will be operational from Shri Siddhivinayak Temple Junction to Portuguese Church Junction (Northbound).
  • Rande Road: Closed for all vehicles.
  • Dhyaneshwar Mandir Road: Closed for all types of vehicular movement.
  • Jambhekar Maharaj Road, Keluskar Road South, and Keluskar Road North: No entry for vehicles.
  • M.B. Raut Road and T.H. Katariya Road: Closed for vehicles throughout the event duration.
  • L.J. Road: No vehicular movement allowed between Shobha Hotel Junction and Aasavari Junction.

Heavy Vehicle Restrictions:

  • Swatantrayaveer Savarkar Road: No heavy vehicles between Mahim Junction and Hardikar Junction.
  • L.J. Road: Heavy vehicle entry restricted from Mahim Junction to Gadkari Junction.
  • Gokhale Road: Heavy vehicles prohibited between Gadkil Junction and Dhanmil Naka.
  • Senapati Bapat Road: Heavy vehicle movement restricted from Mahim Railway Station to Vadacha Naka.
  • NC Kelkar Road: No heavy vehicles allowed between Dadar TT Circle and Veer Kotwal Udyan.

Travel Recommendations

Commuters are advised to avoid the affected roads and use suggested alternative routes. Public transport and carpooling are encouraged to minimize congestion during this period. Mumbai Police has urged citizens to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly.
