SHILLONG: Newly elected  members of the legislative Assembly of Meghalaya will take the oath during a special session of the State Legislative Assembly on Monday, March 6

The Commissioner & Secretary of the Legislative Assembly will place on the table of the House the Election Commission’s notification constituting the elevlenth  Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

Two major regional parties, the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the People's Democratic Front (PDF), have pledged their support for the Conrad K. Sangma-led National People's Party (NPP) coalition. With this, the coalition now has 45 MLAs on its side. There are 11 seats in the UDP and two in the PDF.

The Assembly will observe silence for two minutes.

Timothy D. Shira, the pro-tem speaker, will also reveal the names of the candidates for the panel of committee chairs. The House will reconvene on Thursday to pick the Speaker. On the same day, there will also be a vote of confidence.
With 32 MLAs, the NPP-led alliance supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has staked claim to become the next Meghalayan government, headed by Conrad K Sangma. The alliance coalition's standing has improved as a result of the UDP and PDF adding their support.
