Mancheri, Malappuram – In an inspiring achievement, Amala Thomas, a 24-year-old native of Koomamkulam, Mancheri, has secured the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarship from the European Union. This scholarship, valued at over 40 lakhs, will support Amala in her higher studies in Plant Health in Sustainable Cropping Systems.
Amala’s academic journey will take her to two esteemed institutions in Europe: the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain and the University of Göttingen in Germany. The scholarship covers not just tuition fees, but also accommodation, travel expenses, and insurance, ensuring that Amala can focus entirely on her studies without financial worries.
Amala's success doesn't stop there; she was also admitted to the Erasmus Mundus Plant Breeding (M Plant) course this year. This dual acceptance into such prestigious programs highlights her academic excellence and dedication to the field of agriculture.
A graduate of Kerala Agricultural University, Amala completed her BSc Honors in Agriculture in June 2022 from the Vellanikkara Campus, Thrissur. Her academic pursuits were complemented by hands-on experience as a Research Assistant at the Department of Entomology at the Mannuthi Agricultural Research Center. She also served as a Farm Officer at the Vellayani Instructional Farm, further honing her expertise in agriculture.
