Ingredients for making Modak
To make Ganesha's favourite modaks, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1 cup coconut powder
- 1 cup khoya
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- 2 tbsp ghee
- Sugar to taste
- Modak making mould (optional)
- Oil for frying
Method for making Modak

Knead the dough: First of all, add water little by little to the rice flour and knead it well. Keep it covered for 15-20 minutes.

Prepare the filling:
- Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan.
- Add coconut powder into it and fry till it turns golden.
- When the coconut turns golden, add sugar, khoya and cardamom powder as per taste.
- Mix everything well and prepare the filling.

Making Modaks:
- Make small balls of the kneaded dough and flatten each ball.
- Place the filling in the centre of the flattened dough and join the edges to give it the shape of a modak.
- If you want to make Modaks quickly and easily, then you can use Modak making moulds.

Fry:
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Slowly add the modaks one by one into the hot oil.
- Fry the modaks till they become light golden and then take them out in a plate.
