Bhopal: The liquor ban campaign of senior JAP leader and former CM Uma Bharti has confused the government about the new excise policy. If sources are to be believed, in view of the civic body elections, now the new excise policy is being implemented from July 1 instead of April 1. The final decision will be taken only after discussing it with CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
The excise department has to complete the tender process before March 15, so that in the coming financial year (April 1 to March 31), liquor contracts can start from April 1. But the former CM Uma Bharti has confused the government by announcing the launch of the liquor ban campaign from 8 March. In such a situation, if the government brings a new excise policy, then the liquor ban can become a big issue in the civic elections. Perhaps in view of this, the government is considering implementing this policy after the election i.e. on July 1.
State Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra had given a statement last month about increasing the number of liquor shops in the state for the prevention of illegal liquor. After which the opposition surrounded the government fiercely. Not only this, the leader of the party himself, Uma Bharti, had announced a campaign regarding the ban of liquor. CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that there is no idea of opening new liquor shops. Even after this, the Excise Department had sent a letter to the collectors seeking proposals for opening new shops. However, it was later withdrawn.
