Bhopal: The bugle of civic body elections in Madhya Pradesh has been sounded, with the state going to polls in two phases. The first phase of polling will be held on July 6 and the results will be out on July 17. At the same time, the second phase of voting will be held on July 13 and the results will be out on July 18. State Election Commission Commissioner Basant Pratap Singh has announced the dates for the civic body elections on Wednesday. With this, the code of conduct has also come into force in the urban areas.
With the announcement of panchayat election dates, the code of conduct is already in place in rural areas. The voting time will be from 7 am to 5 pm. There are 298 municipal councils in the state including 16 municipal corporations, 99 municipal councils and 35 newly formed. Out of the 378 civic bodies in the state, the tenure of 321 civic bodies has ended. The tenure of 57 civic bodies is yet to be pending. Out of 321 bodies, election schedule has been issued for holding elections to 318 bodies and out of the newly constituted 35 municipal bodies to 29 municipal councils i.e.
The process of submission of nomination papers will begin with the notification on June 11, which will continue till June 18. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on June 20 and withdrawal of nominations and allotment of election symbols will be done on June 22. In the first phase, 11 districts will go to polls on July 6 and in the second phase, 38 districts will go to polls on July 13. The counting and results of the first phase of civic bodies will be held on July 17 and the second phase on July 18.
