Karnataka: A lawsuit contesting Karnataka State Law University's (KSLU) decision to hold second and fourth-semester exams for its five-year LLB course was dismissed by the Karnataka High Court. The operative section of the order was issued by a single judge bench led by Justice Ashok S Kinagi.

The "Karnataka High Court dismisses suit contesting the Karnataka State Law University's decision to hold exams for 2nd and 4th Semester students in LLB 5 years programme," according to the promulgation.

During the hearing, the KSLU lawyer told the court that over 70% of the students had completed the semester exams, which began on December 15, 2021. The university counsel used Supreme Court decisions and a circular from the Bar Council of India (BCI) to argue that if examinations are not held, the BCI will not recognise the students' degrees. The university counsel further claimed that students had enrolled in the colleges' online classes.

"Majority of the students did not possess the laptop/desktop and also did not have access to internet services," the Karnataka High Court stated. "It is inferred that effective education was not delivered to the petitioners as well as the majority of the students."
