Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has directed an inquiry into the killing of a temple priest last Sunday. He has given this direction to CID-CB. According to information received, instructions have been issued to conduct the investigation in the case of CID-CB Superintendent of Police Vikas Sharma. In the case, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot alleged that "It is condemnable that the BJP has made a dirty attempt to make the tragic incident of buena village of Potarra, which took place in a land dispute between two families, to form a racial hatred between Meena and Vaishnava Samaj. This has unnecessarily tarnished the image of Rajasthan".
In another statement, the chief minister also said, "This incident was not an ethnic conflict, nor a pre-planned episode. It was a quarrel between two families over capturing a piece of land, which turned into a heart-breaking incident". In his statement, he further said, "A day before the incident, on the 6th of October, village panchayat discussed over the land dispute in which the majority of the people were from the Meena society. People of Meena community and others were with the priest Babilal Vaishnava and the panchayat had agreed in favour of Baballal Vaishnava and Radhakrishnan temple in respect of land".
In his further statement, the chief minister also said that the Congress government has always been striving to protect the interests of priests on the lands under the temple. In the land dispute, the priest Vaishnava was allegedly set ablaze on Wednesday and then died. Since his death, people have been demanding justice.
