Jadavpur University has decided that the institution will remain closed till May 3. Keeping in mind the current situation of states the university's registrar, Snehamanju Basu, has said that only basic emergency services will be active. The emergency services required for giving logistical support to online classes and running administrative work in the virtual model, for the time being, will be run from the campus.
The activities will be in presence of very few staff who will be given all necessary protection to avert contamination. The decision was taken after several staff members and other faculty members tested positive for Covid-19 in the last couple of days. Basu further said "With the sudden rise, we need to break the chain. Hence the decision. We are also sanitising all the buildings and blocks extensively.” All the senior functionaries, including Vice-Chancellor Prof Suranjan Das, Basu herself, and faculty members are working from home. Jadavpur University will remain closed from April 24 to May 3.
