ITC Ltd, a diversified conglomerate, announced on Tuesday that it has formed a partnership with IIT Delhi to assist research in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields.
ITC stated in a statement that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the institute to that end, with the purpose of speeding up India's progress toward attaining its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Energy storage, low-carbon cold transportation, and plastic biodegradation are among the areas highlighted for research, which will pave the way for additional research in areas of mutual interest, according to the statement.
ITC Executive Vice President and Head of Social Investments Prabhakar Lingareddy said, "It is ITC's intention to use the technical expertise of institutions such as IITs and promote R&D initiatives in designated areas, which will speed India's progress towards attaining its SDGs."
He stated that ITC has entered the next horizon of sustainable excellence with a comprehensive Sustainability 2.0 vision that includes ambitious targets such as inclusive strategies that can support even more livelihoods, pursue newer pathways to combat climate change, support the circular economy, and enable the transition to a net-zero ecosystem.
"The collaboration will combine cutting-edge research at IIT Delhi with application know-how of ITC to expedite innovation and develop solutions for a variety of end-use applications of our customers and society at large," said Sunil Khare, IIT Delhi Dean, Research & Development. He went on to say that the industry is undergoing significant change, with an ever-increasing need for sustainable and functional products driving new developments.
