Recently, a social media user who traveled by IndiGo Airlines posted a question to the airline, after which this matter became a topic of discussion on the Internet. This user named Shreyansh Singh asked the airline through a post on 'X' (formerly Twitter) what the fee called the 'cute charge' imposed on his ticket.

What is the cute charge?

Shreyansh Singh shared a screenshot of his airline ticket, which showed that the airlines charged him Rs 50 as a 'cute charge' in addition to the fare. In this post, he asked IndiGo, "Dear IndiGo6E, what is this 'cute fee'? Do you charge this because you think your planes are cute? Or do you charge passengers for being cute?"

Indigo's response

In response to this question, IndiGo Airlines clarified that 'CUTE Charge' means 'Common User Terminal Equipment Charge'. IndiGo said, "This charge is taken for the use of various machines being used at the airport, such as metal-detecting machines, escalators, and other equipment."

Further, he also clarified that the 'User Development Fee' is charged for the development and maintenance of airport infrastructure, while the 'Aviation Security Fee' is charged by the airlines at the time of booking for and on behalf of the operators of airports in India. This charge is levied to ensure the safety of passengers.

Reactions on social media

The post sparked a debate on social media, and many other users also reacted to it. A user named M. Thareeja wrote, "Now I understand why IndiGo was showing me three times the price looking beautiful is also a crime!" Another user Sagar M jokingly said, "Now that you have asked the question, maybe they should also add an 'explanation fee'."

Question on airline charges

This incident made it clear that passengers were confusion and questions about the various charges levied by airlines. In such a situation, airlines need to give clear information about these charges to their passengers so that passengers do not have any problem understanding and remain satisfied with their journey.

IndiGo's response was an attempt to answer these questions, but the discussion on social media also made it clear that people need more information about these charges. To increase passenger understanding, airlines should make their list of charges and their explanation more transparent. This matter started with a small incident, but it sparked a big debate about airline fees. IndiGo explained the 'cute charge' in its response, but it also became clear that passengers need more clarity and transparency related to airline fees. It is expected that after this incident, airlines will try to provide better information to their passengers.
