In line with the national initiative for women's empowerment and the showcasing of "Nari Shakti" (women power), the Indian Army is set to establish two Army Girls Sports Companies (AGSC) in a phased manner.

The AGSCs will be situated at two prominent Army centers: the Army Marksmanship Unit in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, and the Army Sports Institute in Pune. These companies are scheduled to commence operations from April 2024.

Their primary objective is to provide training to young girls from across the nation in various sports disciplines including Shooting, Archery, Athletics, Boxing, and Weightlifting. The aim is to identify budding talent, offer formal education alongside necessary administrative support, and groom them into champions in their chosen sports.

These chosen locations boast top-notch training facilities, sports medicine centers, rehabilitation amenities, and coaching services. Leveraging the Indian Army's extensive experience in talent scouting, as evidenced by the success of Boys Sports Companies, these AGSCs aim to replicate that success for girls.

Moreover, these aspiring sportswomen will have the opportunity to interact and learn from senior Army athletes who are undergoing training at these establishments. This exposure to seasoned professionals will serve as a driving force for the young girls, helping them emulate international athletes and acquire essential skills on a consistent basis.

Aligned with India's sports policy to enhance performance at global events like the Olympics, the establishment of AGSCs signifies a strategic move towards achieving more podium finishes.

Furthermore, girls enrolled in AGSCs will have avenues for recruitment as direct entry Non-Commissioned Officers, Direct Entry Junior Commissioned Officers, and Agniveers. The success stories of individuals like Subedar Preeti Rajak, a champion trap shooter, and Asian Games Silver medallist, who was promoted to Subedar in January 2024 after her enrollment as a Havildar in December 2022, serve as shining examples.

Similarly, Jasmine Lamboria, a Bronze medallist in the Commonwealth Games 2022, found a place as a non-commissioned Officer in the Indian Army in October 2022. These accomplished athletes will undoubtedly serve as role models, inspiring future generations of young talent to strive for excellence in their respective fields.
