In Meghalaya, the Congress has teamed up with the state's NPP-led MDA (Meghalaya Democratic Alliance) administration. In Meghalaya, five Congress MLAs have 'promised' to back the MDA government "to strengthen" it further. Ampareen Lyngdoh, a Meghalaya Congress MLA and the state's CLP leader, verified the development on Tuesday. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Mayralborn Syiem, Mohendro Rapsang, Kimfa Marbaniang, and PT Sawkmie, the five Congress MLAs in Meghalaya, met with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday and expressed their support for the cabinet.
"The five Meghalaya Congress MLAs have chosen to join the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance administration for the sake of the state's people, particularly our respective constituencies," CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh stated. However, it is unclear whether the Congress high office has approved the 'alliance' with the Meghalaya section. Notably, the BJP, the Congress' main opponent, is a partner in the ruling MDA coalition government in Meghalaya.
Earlier, 12 MLAs had defected from the Congress and joined the Trinamool Congress, including former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma (TMC).
