NEW DELHI: RuPay credit cards are now supported on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) thanks to Google Pay and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
Users can now link their RuPay credit cards to Google Pay to make purchases at any offline or online merchant that accepts RuPay credit cards.
According to a statement from the firm, the feature is currently accessible to owners of RuPay credit cards from Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, and Union Bank of India.
Sharath Bulusu, Google's Director of Product Management said "this feature will give Google Pay users more flexibility and choice when making payments and will drive greater adoption of digital payments in the country."
Users must link the RuPay credit card to Google Pay in order to activate it. Users can select the bank that issued their RuPay credit card by tapping on the "RuPay credit card on UPI" option on their profile.
After that, users must enter their bank's OTP together with the last six digits of their card number and expiration to set a special UPI PIN.
"The integration of RuPay Credit Card on UPI delivers a remarkable user experience," said Nalin Bansal, Chief Relationship Management and Key Initiatives, Corporate Business from NPCI. "It seamlessly combines the convenience of UPI with the advantages of RuPay Credit Card."
In June 2022, the RuPay credit cards were permitted to be linked to the UPI network by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
The number of UPI transactions reached 8.7 billion in March, according to the NPCI, which also reported a sharp increase in monthly transaction volume.
In calendar year 2022, about 74 billion transactions of Rs 125.94 trillion were made via UPI, as per NPCI data.
