CHENNAI: After 13 additional cases were registered on Saturday, the Covid-19 cluster at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has now grown to 196.
The patients' health status were stable, according to doctors at the top institute, who added: "In quarters and hostels, the majority of students have been isolated. Cold, fever, sore throat, and body soreness are some of the moderate symptoms they have." All of the samples obtained from IITM were of the BA2 Omicron variant, according to a genome sequencing facility at the state's Public Health Department.
Dr. Selvavinayagam, the department's director, said that this Omicron variant was the community's dominant strain even in March. "No new sub-variants have been detected," he noted.
"We will continue to screen all students, academics, and other administrative employees on school, and health professionals will collect samples from all staff and students on campus," said J. Radhakrishnan, the state's health secretary.
