IIT Delhi has emerged as the top Indian institution in the 2025 QS Asia University Rankings, securing the 44th position. This marks a two-spot improvement from last year, placing IIT Delhi ahead of IIT Bombay, which dropped eight places to 48th.
The institution's rise can be attributed to several key factors, including its impactful research, enhanced academic reputation, and a growing number of faculty members holding PhDs. "There’s a lot of emphasis on tech advancement, startups, and solving problems that will help society," said Prof. Vivek Buwa, head of IIT Delhi's ranking cell and dean of planning.
IIT Delhi’s success in research is notable, with an average of seven publications per faculty member each year. The university also received high marks for its academic reputation, particularly in employment prospects among Asian universities.
International collaborations further strengthened IIT Delhi’s position, with the university participating in nearly 116 global research projects.
Six Indian universities made it to the top 100 in the Asia rankings, although some experienced drops in their positions. IIT Madras ranked 56th, IISc Bangalore 62nd, and IIT Kanpur 67th.
