Agartala: All India Congress Committee (AICC) national general secretary Ajay Kumar has said that if the Left-Congress alliance comes to power in the upcoming assembly elections in Tripura, only a senior tribal leader of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) should be the chief minister of the state. Let us tell you that CPM and Congress are fighting jointly in the Tripura assembly elections.

Ajay Kumar, while addressing a joint election rally at Kailashahar in Unakoti district, said that if we come to power after the elections, a top tribal leader and 'son of the soil' from the CPM will be the CM of the state. Jitendra Chowdhary is one of the top CPM leaders from the tribal community, and if the Left-Congress coalition government is formed in Tripura, he is seen as a strong contender for the post of Chief Minister. Let us tell you that this statement of Ajay Kumar has come at a time when CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Friday (February 10) deferred the question of the Left contender for the post of CM. In response to the question asked about the Leftist candidate for the post of CM, Yechury said in the press conference, the MLA will decide it.

Let us tell you that Manik Sarkar, a veteran leader of the CPI (M) and who has been the Chief Minister for four times, is not contesting the elections this time, due to which the way is being opened for the young leaders to lead the party. Voting for the 60-member Tripura Assembly will be held on February 16, when around 28 lakh people are expected to exercise their franchise.
