The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has modified the dates for its upcoming exams to accommodate the Lok Sabha elections. Originally slated for May, the exams will now occur on revised dates. This adjustment comes following the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission, which will be conducted in seven phases.
With the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) after the Election Commission's announcement, ICAI took the decision to avoid any overlap between the exam dates and the election schedule.
Revised Exam Schedule:
Intermediate course exam for Group 1: May 3, 5, and 9 (previously May 3, 5, and 7).
Intermediate course exam for Group 2: May 11, 15, and 17 (previously May 9, 11, and 13).
Final exams for Group 1: May 2, 4, and 8 (previously May 2, 4, and 6).
Final exams for Group 2: May 10, 14, and 16 (previously May 8, 10, and 12).
Reasons Behind the Changes:
The decision to revise the exam timetable was prompted by the announcement of the Lok Sabha election schedule for April - June 2024. The elections will be conducted in seven phases, with polling for 543 Lok Sabha seats starting on April 19 and concluding with the vote count on June 4.
During this period, elections for the State legislatures of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim will also take place.
Clarification on Exam Schedule:
ICAI has clarified that in the event of any exam day being declared a public holiday by the Central Government or any State Government/Local Authority, there will be no change in the examination schedule.
Candidates are advised to regularly check the ICAI website for updates. Additionally, the exams will be held at eight overseas examination centers: Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Thimphu (Bhutan), Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu (Nepal), Kuwait, and Muscat.
According to ICAI's January notification, the CA foundation course examination was initially scheduled for June 20, 22, 24, and 26, 2024. For the CA Intermediate course, tests for group 1 were planned for May 3, 5, and 7, 2024, followed by group 2 exams on May 9, 11, and 13. The CA final course examinations for Group 1 were slated for May 2, 4, and 6, with group 2 exams scheduled for May 8, 10, and 12.
ICAI's rescheduling of its May exams due to the Lok Sabha elections emphasizes the need for candidates to stay updated on the revised exam dates and other announcements from ICAI.
