New Delhi: India has officially requested Pakistan to extradite Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, stated Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs. Despite being a wanted terrorist in India, Hafiz Saeed has operated freely in Pakistan, and his son, Talha Saeed, has announced plans to run in the upcoming Pakistani general elections. Hafiz Saeed has been in Pakistani custody since 2019, convicted on various terror finance charges along with leaders of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) organization.

Arindam Bagchi, while addressing the extradition request, mentioned, "The person in question is wanted in numerous cases in India. He is also a UN-proscribed terrorist. In this regard, we have conveyed a request along with relevant supporting documents to the Government of Pakistan to extradite him to India to face trial in a particular case. We have been flagging the issue of activities that he's been wanted for. This is a recent request."

Despite being imprisoned in Pakistan, Hafiz Saeed's continued freedom of movement within the country has raised concerns. The extradition request emphasizes his involvement in the Mumbai attacks and underscores India's determination to bring him to trial for his alleged crimes.
