AMARAVATI: Government employees in Andhra Pradesh have threatened to go on strike if the Government Order (GO) relating to the implementation of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) recommendations is not reversed.
On Wednesday, employees wore black badges to work, while other teachers protested by setting fire to copies of the GO. Later in the day, leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee (AP JAC) and the AP JAC Amaravati will meet to plan the next steps. Employees will go on strike if required to enforce their demands, they said.
AP JAC chairman Bandi Srinivasa Rao and AP JAC Amaravati chairman Bopparaju Venkateswarlu asked that the government continue to pay IR and discharge the arrears of Dearness Allowance, claiming that the wage revision proposed by the government is significantly below the Interim Relief . They said that no pay revision had ever been lower than IR in the state's history.
Following Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's decision earlier this month, the government issued a directive on Monday to increase basic wage by 23 percent. For the previous few months, the employees had been receiving 27 percent increment relief.
