Fraud cases have increased rapidly in India in recent times. Now, technology giants have expressed concern over this. Microsoft had already issued an advisory, warning Windows users that cyber attacks like Crowdstrike could happen again. However, this warning was for Indian users. Now Google has also issued a similar warning, talking about the increase in phishing campaigns supported by the Iranian government.

Google's warning

Google has informed through its Threat Analysis Group (TAG) that there has been an increase in phishing attack activities by a group called APT42 from Iran. APT42, which is supported by Iran, is specifically targeting high-profile users from Israel and the US. Their targets are current and former government officials, political campaigns, diplomats, NGOs, and academic institutions, as these institutions play an important role in foreign policy.

According to Google, APT42 has affected 60 percent of people in the US and Israel in the last six months. The attack method of this group is based on email phishing, which is a type of cybercrime.

Phishing Attack Tactics

Google explained in its blog that APT42 uses several strategies for email phishing attacks. In these attacks, cybercriminals ask users to share sensitive information such as their username and password.

In these phishing attacks, criminals use the names of legitimate organizations, such as government agencies. They also create a fake website and entice users to click on it. When people believe these emails to be genuine and click on the unknown link, their personal information is stolen.

Google's advice

Google has advised users to be cautious to avoid such phishing attacks. People should be cautious before clicking on unknown emails and make sure whether the email is legitimate or not. If the email contains the name of a government or other important organization, it is important to confirm it.

Through this advisory, Google has once again highlighted the importance of cyber security and has appealed to the users to be alert to avoid any suspicious activity. Cases of cyber fraud are constantly increasing and it is necessary to be alert to avoid them. Google and other technology companies are constantly working to deal with this threat. Users should be alert about their online security and avoid clicking on any suspicious email or link.
