Panaji: President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her heartfelt wishes to the people of Goa on Goa Liberation Day, highlighting the valorous efforts of the freedom fighters responsible for this significant chapter in the state's history.
Using her official social media account on platform X, President Murmu expressed, "As we commemorate Goa Liberation Day, the nation honors the brave martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for Goa's freedom from colonial rule. We pay tribute to the freedom fighters and our armed forces for their extraordinary courage and dedication. I extend my best wishes for a prosperous future to the residents of this enchanting state."
In a similar vein, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant took to the micro-blogging platform, acknowledging the sacrifice and bravery of Goa's freedom fighters and the armed forces.
"On this momentous occasion of Goa Liberation Day, I salute the supreme sacrifice made by our freedom fighters who fearlessly battled to liberate Goa from oppressive colonial rule. I commend the Indian Armed Forces for their decisive role in Operation Vijay," Sawant shared from his official X account.
"The liberation struggle, a testament to sheer determination, fills our hearts with optimism as we unite to construct a promising future for the coming generations in 'Bhangrale Goem' (Prosperous Goa)," added the CM in his post, extending warm wishes to the people of Goa on this significant day.
Furthermore, Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai also honored the memory of soldiers who sacrificed their lives to liberate Goa from colonial domination.
"Today marks Goa Liberation Day. On December 19, 1961, Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule, becoming an integral part of India. Let us pay homage to all those who made invaluable sacrifices for Goa's freedom," Governor Pillai shared on platform X.
Annually observed on December 19th, Goa Liberation Day commemorates the day in 1961 when the Indian Army liberated the state from 450 years of Portuguese rule.
