As we ring in the New Year, it is also a day dedicated for peace and sharing, The Global family day. The day is a reminder that the whole globe is one family that belongs together, only to Humanity. No race, faith, or culture shall make a difference. Neither our ethnicity or nationality that is divided by borders. Today, when the world is suffering from terrorism, despair, suffering, hatred and in a state of war, we should gather to celebrate love, happiness and our oneness in peace.
The Global family day is observed annually on January 1st to bring everyone together in unity and endure as the global village.
The theme this year is – “One world, one family: Building bridges across generations.”
History of the day
In the year 1997 on the first day of the millennium celebration, the United Nations General Assembly declared International Decade for the culture of peace and Non-violence for the children of the world. Later in 1999, the member nations of the United Nations were invited in order to commit the first day of the year in developing the strategies that ensure peace in the world. Every year after that, January 1 is celebrated as the Global family day.
The efforts of Linda Grover led the subject gain momentum in the United States. Further, the publication of the 1996 children’s book “One day in peace” in the year 2000. The book is about the idea of a time in future when there is only peace and no war.
It is also known as World Peace day as the day is meant to ensure unity by bringing peace and harmony to the world community.
Significance of the day
A webinar can be organized in the community at the local levels to state the importance of peacebuilding. The next generation should be made aware of the concept. Only peacebuilding can stop coming wars.
Sign petitions to end any conflict that holds significance at the international level. Petitions are the best means to support or resist anything. World peace organizations can quickly take decisions based upon the public opinion.
It has to be only about unity, peace and the connection of humans. We must remember that the growth and prosperity of humanity is possible only when the world is together. In fact, we should all work towards the humankind’s betterment. Because, when the world together strives for peace, then it prospers. War is never the solution.
