Jaipur: The election for the post of National President of Congress is to be held on 17 October. Rahul Gandhi has refused to contest for the post of President. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has made it clear that if Rahul Gandhi does not contest this election, he will file his nomination. In such a situation, when he has been asked whether he will leave the post of CM after becoming the President of Congress in view of the rule of 'one person, one post', Ashok Gehlot said that this is an open election, and anyone can contest it. This rule is for nominated posts.

Ashok Gehlot said that when the high command nominates, then it comes to two posts. This is an open election. Anyone can contest it. In this, any MLA, MP, or Minister can contest elections. If any state minister says that he wants to contest the election, he can contest. He can also be a minister. On the question of continuing as CM, he said that it is not a matter of staying. Time will tell where I live. But I would like to stay where the party will benefit from my stay. I will not go back on it. Ashok Gehlot said that it is very important for the Congress to be strong for the condition of the country today. 

Wherever I am needed to strengthen the Congress, I will not back down, he said. He said, "I had proposed 4-5 days ago within the Pradesh Congress Committee that Rahul Gandhi ji should accept the post of President. If he tours as party president, a different image of the party will be created. I will try one more time to persuade him.''
