PANAJI:  Emmanuel Lenain, the French ambassador to India, stated that France would like to collaborate with India in co-producing movies as India has one of the biggest film industries in the world.

On Monday, Lenain attended the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), in Goa, along with the French consul general in Mumbai, Jean-Marc Sere-Charlet, and the director of the French Institute in India, Emmanuel Lebrun Damiens.

Said Lenain: "Since India has the largest movie industry in the world, we want to collaborate and co-produce movies. We shall make every effort to promote co-production." Many of France's films will be presented as part of the festival's "Country Focus" package because it is the "Spotlight" nation.

Beginning with Emmanuel Carrere's "Between Two Worlds," the series of movies (Ouistreham).

Lenain welcomed a group of French film producers who are currently working on a movie about their ancestors, commanders in Napoleon's army who travelled to India after the Battle of Waterloo to aid in the struggle against the British.

In this sense, Lenain stated that the film would depict the enduring friendship between the two nations.  He also expressed optimism for the new initiatives that would result from their participation in the Goa festival this year.
With more than 300 films produced annually, we believe we are a great nation of cinema, much like India.

He said that Indo-French joint production films such as 'Lunchbox', 'Sir' and others were outstanding successes.
