Former chief minister and CPI-M veteran Manik Sarkar fired a new salvo at the ruling BJP in Tripura, saying that the leaders who achieved the BJP's landslide victory in the state's 2018 Assembly elections have fled the party after seeing misrule. According to Manik Sarkar, the defected leaders have requested apologies from the people of the state after realising their mistakes.
"Around 40 percent of the Congress vote shifted to the BJP. Leaders who joined the BJP before of the 2018 elections were given significant cabinet positions, while others were elected as MLAs for the first time. But, what is the current situation? They're seeking for public apologies for their errors," Manik Sarkar said. "This is the reality of the BJP," he said.
Former BJP MLAs Sudip Roy Barman and Asish Saha recently left the saffron party and joined the Congress, prompting Manik Sarkar's remark. Sarkar urged people to come to the streets and voice their dissatisfaction. On Monday, the former Tripura chief minister paid a visit to the family of CPI-M leader Benu Biswas, who was reportedly killed by "BJP-backed thugs." Manik Sarkar also slammed the Tripura police for their role in the "murder case" investigation.
He claims that the Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) is "indirectly aiding" followers of the governing party who are accused of murdering the CPI-M leader. "We strongly condemn this." Manik Sarkar stated, "They have established a new example of inhumanity and barbarism." "The entire scenario was related to us by Benu Biswas' nephew." We also chatted with his wife. Benu has earlier suffered from political intolerance. "A few days ago, the dead leader's elder brother was also attacked," he stated.
