Lyricist, musician, and storyteller—Ssanjay Rahi is that name that's rapidly being etched in the Indian music industry. Beginning in a small town in Madhya Pradesh to the busy streets of Mumbai, the journey showed both resilience, passion, and a deep love for the words and melodies. We chatted with Ssanjay to talk about his inspirations, challenges, and what's kept the creative fire burning.
Q: Ssanjay, I must say that your journey has been very inspiring. How was it all from Narsinghpur to Mumbai for you?
Ssanjay: I had a flair for words. Since I was a small boy, I was attracted towards poetry and the rhythm in language. I started off as a writer for local newspapers and used to write column 'Rubaroo' on daink bhaskar news paper and all India Radio, which people loved with good feedback. But I knew that I wanted to do more, so I decided to take up music and lyrics as a profession, and that is how I ended up in Mumbai; it was a giant leap, but one that I will never regret.
Q: Having managed to complete Narmada Parikrama and walking 4,000 km alone is an incredible feat in itself. How did it shape you as an artist and as a person?
Ssanjay: Narmada Parikrama was not just a journey for the body but even for the soul. I had to walk alone so many miles, getting lost in thoughts on life, purpose, and my art. It taught me patience, strength, and to stay grounded. I think this contributed to making my lyrics more reflective and complex. Each stride of that journey is like a line of a long poem, and even today those experiences are a part of my writing.
Q: You are very active on social media, where you post heartwarming poems and glimpses of your life. That must be helping you connect with your audience; how?
Ssanjay: Social media is a great platform for artists today. It enables me to share my work instantly with people who will appreciate it. For me, Social Media isn't just a place to showcase my poetry but also build a community. It motivates me immensely every time people comment on my posts or even send a message stating that the particular verse resonated with them. It reminds me of how my words reach far beyond what I can see, and that's such a beautiful feeling.
Q: Your song 'Sagar Se Gehara Hun Mein' was a huge hit. What inspired you to pen that?
Ssanjay: "For 'Sagar Se Gehara Hun Mein,' I wanted to be able to capture the vastness of emotions—how love and depth are intertwined, just like the ocean. Every time I write, I try to conjure up a different emotion and express it in a way that's relatable as well as poetic. It's all about painting a picture with words, and when people connect with that imagery, it feels like I've accomplished my goal."
Q: What are the future plans for Ssanjay Rahi? Are there any projects you're excited to work on?
Ssanjay: I am always working on new music and poetry. There are some exciting collaborations and projects that have been lined up in the pipeline, which I cannot reveal at the moment. So, what I'm most excited about is the constant experimentation with genres and themes. And of course, I will keep sharing my journey and thoughts through social media to stay connected with my audience.
