The final phase of the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections is set to take place today, November 20, with more than one crore voters eligible to vote in 38 assembly seats across the state. This crucial phase follows the first round of voting, which saw a healthy turnout of 66.65% on November 13, marking a 2.75% increase compared to the 2019 election.

In this phase, political parties are making their final push. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting in 32 seats, while its ally, the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), is fighting for six. The INDIA alliance, consisting of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist), and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has fielded candidates across various constituencies. The JMM will contest from 20 seats, Congress from 13, CPI(ML) from four, and RJD from two. Notably, there will be friendly contests between the JMM and CPI(ML) in Dhanwar, as well as between Congress and RJD in Chattarpur and Bishrampur.

Among the prominent candidates in this phase are Chief Minister Hemant Soren, contesting from Barhait; his wife Kalapana Soren from Gandey; and his brother Basant Soren from Dumka. BJP’s state president Babulal Marandi is contesting from Dhanwar, while the Leader of Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, Amar Kumar Bauri, represents the BJP in Chandankiyari. Other notable figures include Shibu Soren’s daughter-in-law, Sita Soren, who is contesting from Jamtara, and AJSU president Sudhesh Mahato from Silli.

With the final phase underway, all eyes are on the outcome as these candidates and their parties vie for power in the state.

Deepika Pandey Singh, who is contesting from the Mahagama assembly seat on behalf of the Congress, shared her confidence in the work she has done over the past month on the campaign trail. She believes that the people will recognize her efforts and reward her with another term. "I have worked hard for the community, and I have complete faith that the public will appreciate my efforts. I am confident that they will once again give me the chance to serve," said Singh.

Her down-to-earth gesture of threshing paddy not only highlighted her roots in rural life but also sparked a conversation among voters, further solidifying her connection with the people she seeks to represent.
