External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with the UK's Foreign Secretary David Lammy in Rome, coinciding with his three-day visit to Italy. The two leaders discussed important aspects of collaboration between India and the United Kingdom during the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of Jaishankar's official visit.

Jaishankar highlighted the ongoing progress in the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly in areas such as technology, green energy, trade, and mobility. They also shared perspectives on current developments in the Indo-Pacific and West Asia regions.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Started the day by meeting FS David Lammy of UK, in Rome today. Appreciate the steady momentum in India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Discussed deepening cooperation in technology, green energy, trade, mobility, as well as ongoing developments in Indo-Pacific and West Asia.”

As part of his Italy visit, Jaishankar will be participating in the Outreach Session of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Fiuggi, where India is attending as a guest nation. Additionally, he is set to attend the 10th Mediterranean Dialogue in Rome, an event hosted by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation alongside the Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI).

Earlier in the visit, Jaishankar inaugurated the newly established Chancery of the Indian Embassy in Rome, emphasizing the rich historical ties between India and Italy. He remarked on the longstanding connection between the two nations, noting Italy’s significant role in India's historical engagements with Europe.

“Our historical connect is actually very deep, and I would not be exaggerating if I said that a lot of India’s historical interface with Europe was actually with Italy. This was almost the landing point for anything coming to India or going out of India. So for us, Italians have been producers, they have been customers, they have been financiers, and they have been carriers in our commerce. Our countries are also maritime nations. I think that gives a very different perspective to the world,” he said during the occasion.
