CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday praised the Supreme Court's decision to grant Other Backward Class (OBC) students a 27 percent reservation in all-India medical courses. He said that the verdict had vindicated the DMK's years of tenacious struggle.

The Supreme Court confirmed the legality of the OBC and EWS quotas in NEET-PG 2021 and NEET-UG 2021, saying it is necessary to begin the process of counselling for postgraduate medical courses.

"Counselling on the basis of NEET-PG 2021 and NEET-UG 2021 shall be conducted by giving effect to the reservation as provided by the notice dated 29 July 2021, including the 27 percent reservation for the OBC category and 10 percent reservation for the EWS category in AIQ seats," said a bench led by Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and A.S. Bopanna. In a statement, Stalin stated, "The Supreme Court verdict for 27 percent OBC reservation is a very important win for the DMK and the people of Tamil Nadu who are committed to social justice."

The Chief Minister went on to say, "Every year, up to 4,000 children from India's poorest communities will profit from this. The DMK had filed an appeal at the Supreme Court on behalf of millions of poor people across the country. That makes me pleased and proud." According to the Chief Minister, the DMK's and the social justice movement's struggle in Tamil Nadu has given rights to oppressed people all throughout India.
