US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, brought festive cheer to the Delhi embassy by performing Bhangra during Diwali celebrations. He danced to the catchy Bollywood song ā€œTauba Taubaā€ from the film Bad Newz, featuring Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri. Dressed in a traditional kurta, pyjama, and shawl, Garcetti embraced the spirit of the occasion.

Garcetti expressed his appreciation for the celebration, highlighting the importance of Diwali and the role of Indian Americans in strengthening US-India relations.

ā€œWhat a beautiful celebration of Diwali at the White House! As we celebrate the journey of light, we also honor the invaluable contributions of Indian Americans who deepen the #USIndia bond. From New Delhi to D.C., may the light of Diwali illuminate every corner of the world and spread the message of peace and prosperity #CelebrateWithUS #HappyDiwali,ā€ Garcetti posted on X.

This Diwali marks the last celebration for Joe and Jill Biden as President and First Lady of the United States. The official White House account shared images from the festivities, captioned: ā€œHappy Diwali from the White House! Together, may we show the power in the gathering of light.ā€

During the Diwali event, President Biden addressed the attendees, acknowledging the significant impact of the South Asian American community on American life. ā€œThe South Asian American community has enriched every part of American lifeā€¦. Yours is the fastest-growing and most engaged community in the world... Now, Diwali is celebrated openly and proudly in the White House,ā€ he said.

He also addressed the importance of unity amid the challenges facing American democracy, emphasizing that, while debates arise from a diverse society, itā€™s crucial to remain united. ā€œThis is not my house; this is your house... Today we face an inflection point... Every once in a few generations we are reminded to not take the Idea of America for granted... American Democracy has never been easy. In a country as diverse as ours, we debate, we dissent... but the key is, we never lose sight of how we got here and why,ā€ President Biden remarked.
