Kannur: PK Sreemathi, a prominent leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M), has lodged a formal complaint with the Superintendent of Police in Kannur. Her grievance concerns an ongoing online campaign that has specifically targeted her, disseminating a fictitious narrative designed to tarnish her reputation.
According to Sreemathi's complaint, individuals behind this campaign have fabricated a false story in which she purportedly stated her intention to serve beef and fish during the Onam festival. Additionally, they have questioned her courage to express a similar commitment to serving pork during Eid celebrations. The underlying motive behind this false narrative appears to be the fomentation of communal discord, mirroring the communal tensions currently observed in certain northern Indian states. Sreemathi commented on this issue in a written statement, expressing her concerns.
"In states like Uttar Pradesh, the Sangh Parivar is actively engaged in promoting a campaign based on hatred," she remarked.
Highlighting Kerala's distinct ethos, Sreemathi emphasized that the state has a history of communal harmony, where individuals enjoy the freedom to make dietary choices based on their personal preferences. She underscored the principle that food preferences are a matter of individual choice.
Sreemathi, a central committee member of the CPI(M), also pointed out that false and misleading statements had been attributed to her, explicitly with the aim of sowing seeds of division along communal lines. She suspected a deliberate attempt to diminish her stature and reputation. Consequently, she took the step of filing an official complaint to ensure that those responsible for this fraudulent campaign are held accountable under the law.
