The highly anticipated film, Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, is poised for a spectacular debut at the box office. However, the forthcoming G20 Summit in Delhi may cast a shadow over the festivities for fans residing in the nation's capital.

Scheduled for September 9-10, the G20 Summit will bring together heads of state from around the world, including US President Joe Biden, in Delhi. Heightened security measures are expected, particularly in parts of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area.

Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, the Executive Director of PVR-INOX Ltd, has confirmed that four PVR theaters – PVR Plaza, Rivoli, Odeon, and ECX Chanakyapuri – will remain closed during the Summit. These are single-screen theaters with a combined seating capacity of approximately 2,000 seats.

Fans who had eagerly anticipated watching Jawan in these iconic venues will now need to revise their plans. While these closures constitute a relatively small portion of the film's overall business, they could potentially impact the atmosphere and experience that fans had been looking forward to.

While the G20 Summit is undoubtedly a significant event for international diplomacy, the timing may prove inconvenient for Shah Rukh Khan's audience in central Delhi. In a year that has witnessed Bollywood's resurgence at the box office, with blockbusters like Pathaan, Gadar 2, and OMG 2, any disruptions are bound to be frustrating for moviegoers.

Is Jawan Set to Outperform Pathaan?

Sanjeev Kumar Bijli commented, "About 30-35% of the film's business will come from the South, which again is larger than the figures achieved by Pathaan."

Mumbai-based trade expert Komal Nahta, speaking to PTI, remarked, "The situation is unpredictable for both single-screen theaters and multiplexes. It is challenging to forecast the box office performance, but it is expected to gross at least Rs. 70 crore on its opening day in India."

If Nahta's estimations, aligning with those of several other experts, hold true, Jawan's opening day earnings could surpass those of Pathaan. Shah Rukh Khan's all-time blockbuster garnered Rs. 57 crore on its opening day.

Miraj Cinema, boasting more than 182 screens nationwide, has already reported the sale of 28,000 tickets. Amit Sharma, the Managing Director of Miraj Entertainment Ltd, proudly announced, "Due to overwhelming public demand, we have broken new ground by scheduling a 5 am screening for a Hindi film in Kolkata, marking a first in our cinema's history. Jaipur will also experience the earliest screening at 6.05 am in Hindi, setting a record for the city."
