NEW DELHI: Congress is set to convene a screening committee meeting in Delhi today in preparation for the upcoming elections in Madhya Pradesh. As the assembly elections draw nearer, the party will gather to make crucial decisions regarding its candidates.
Prominent party figures, including Madhya Pradesh PCC Chief Kamal Nath, AICC Incharge of MP Randeep Singh Surjewala, Screening Committee Chairman of MP Bhawar Jitendra Singh, Digvijaya Singh, and other senior leaders from the state's Congress unit, along with members of the Screening Committee and AICC co-Incharges, will assemble at the Congress War Room in New Delhi for this meeting.
"Congress Screening Committee for Madhya Pradesh to meet today in Delhi at 6 PM at Congress War Room," reported Congress sources.
With just two and a half months left before the polls, the Congress party is intensifying its electoral preparations within the state. The venerable political entity has also unveiled a series of promises as it endeavors to regain power in Madhya Pradesh.
The Madhya Pradesh assembly elections are slated to take place later this year. In contrast, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had already disclosed its initial list of candidates for the state, which is gearing up for the elections.
Madhya Pradesh is one of the five states where assembly elections will be conducted later this year, aiming to elect 230 members of the state legislature. Notably, the BJP remains the ruling party in Madhya Pradesh, making it an essential battleground. In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress emerged as the largest single party with 114 seats, closely followed by the BJP with 109 seats. However, in 2020, the Congress government lost its majority due to the resignation of some MLAs, paving the way for the BJP to form a new government, with Shivraj Singh Chouhan returning as the Chief Minister.
