Shillong: Election for the post of Speaker of Meghalaya Assembly is going to be held on 13 September. Assembly Speaker Timothy D. Shira announced it in the House. It is known that on July 28, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Dr. Donkupar Rai died. Metbah Lyngdoh has been nominated for the post from the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), while the Congress has nominated MLA Winnerson D Sangma for the post.

Lyngdoh is the leader of the UDP Legislative Party and is also the Minister of Tourism in the MDA government. Recently, there was a meeting of MDA, which was attended by all MDA colleagues. In this meeting everyone agreed on the name of Lyngdonh. Significantly, Lingdonah has reached the Assembly for the third time by electing an MLA. There are currently 59 members in Wis. Of which MDA has the support of 40 MLAs.

These include an Independent MLA with NPP 21, UDP 8, PDF 4, BJP-HSPDP two each and NCP-Khanam one each. At the same time, the opposition Congress has decided to make MLA Winnerson D Sangma its candidate for the post of President. He has been elected MLA for the second time in the assembly. Let us tell you that in the year 2018 also Sangma had become a candidate for this post, but he lost to Dr. Donkupar Rai.
