Udaipur, Rajasthan: On Saturday, Udaipur was engulfed in communal tensions after a violent altercation between two government school students, one of whom was reportedly stabbed with a knife. The incident led members of Hindu right-wing groups to assemble in the city's Madhuban area, where they engaged in arson and violence.

In response to the escalating unrest, authorities imposed prohibitory orders to prevent public gatherings. The protesters set fire to several cars parked in a garage, vandalized shops in a mall, and damaged various businesses. They also attempted to invade multiple religious sites and pelted stones at different parts of the city.

The unrest began when a mob threw stones and set fire to several vehicles. The police reported that the violence escalated quickly, prompting the closure of key markets including Bapu Bazar, Hathipole, Ghanta Ghar, and Chetak Circle by evening to prevent further damage.

The situation deteriorated further when stones were thrown at a shopping mall, causing damage to shop windows. Hundreds of people also gathered outside a government hospital but were dispersed by the police.

What Sparked the Violence?
The communal clashes in Udaipur were ignited by an incident at a local government school. A Class 10 student was reportedly attacked with a knife by a classmate. In response to this assault, members of some Hindu groups convened at Madhuban, leading to violent confrontations.

Udaipur's district collector, Arvind Poswal, explained that the administration was alerted to a fight between two students in the morning. "The incident occurred early today, where one student was attacked with a knife on his thighs. The injury was severe, and the victim was rushed to the hospital," he stated.

Poswal further reported, “I have spoken with the injured student, and he is now stable. The attacker and his father have been detained.”

To address the situation, a meeting was held with various public representatives including Rajya Sabha MP Chunnilal Garasia, Lok Sabha MP Mannalal Rawat, MLAs Tarachand Jain and Phool Singh Meena, Divisional Commissioner Rajendra Bhatt, Collector Arvind Poswal, and SP Yogesh Goyal.
