The auspicious day of Guru Purnima is dedicated to expressing gratitude to gurus, coaches, mentors or teachers, who help us to move in the right path always. It is a celebration of the guru-shishya bond, as is celebrated in parts of India, Nepal and Bhutan.

The festival holds a deeper meaning and fascinating history. Gautam Buddha, the founder of the Buddhist faith, is believed to have given his first sermon on this day. After five weeks of achieving enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, Buddha went from Bodhgaya to Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh. There he gave a sermon on the full moon day.

It is also considered as the day the first guru was born. In the yogic culture Lord Shiva is considered as the ultimate Guru or Adiyogi. Guru Purnima is that full moon day when the first yogi transformed himself into the Adi Guru – the first guru.
