Tripura: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious on Friday in two crucial byelections held in Tripura, specifically in the constituencies of Dhanpur and Boxanagar. As per the official announcement by the Election Commission, Tafajjal Hossain, the BJP candidate, clinched victory in the Boxanagar constituency, securing a substantial lead with 30,237 votes. In contrast, his closest competitor, Mizan Hossain from the Communist Party (M), managed to garner only 3,909 votes.

Simultaneously, in the Dhanpur constituency, BJP's Bindu Debnath triumphed by a margin of 18,871 votes. Debnath secured a total of 30,017 votes, while the candidate from the CPI (M), Kaushik Chanda, garnered 11,146 votes. It's worth noting that these byelections took place on Tuesday, September 5.

The byelection in Dhanpur was necessitated by the resignation of the BJP's Pratima Bhoumik, who vacated her assembly seat to retain her Lok Sabha position. Bindu Debnath, Bhoumik's brother, was fielded as the BJP candidate against Kaushik Chanda of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in Dhanpur. In the Boxanagar constituency, the BJP and CPI (M) were in direct competition due to the vacancy created by the passing of CPI (MK) MLA Samsul Haque.

Tripura's Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, expressed his satisfaction with the election results, stating that they exemplified the people's trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. In a post on X, he conveyed his gratitude to the constituents of Boxanagar and Dhanpur, acknowledging the landslide victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the byelections. He emphasized that this victory underscored the continuous faith of the people in PM Shri @narendramodi Ji and @BJP4India President @JPNadda Ji. He reaffirmed the commitment to work tirelessly to fulfill the aspirations of the people.
