Chennai: A postgraduate student of Indian Institute of Technology ( MadrasIIT-M), pursuing an M.S. in electrical engineering, was found dead in his hostel room. This is the second case of reported death in IIT-Madras.
The Kotturpuram Police have filed a case, suspecting it to be a case of suicide, and are investigating. A police official of the Chennai City Police said the student was a native of Maharashtra, who stayed in a single occupancy room at the Mahanadhi hostel on the IIT-M campus.
He didn't come out of his room on Tuesday morning, whereby the students of the hostel informed the warden and the security personnel, who went in and found him dead in his room. Police are investigating. A response is awaited from the institution.
Last year on Sept 16, A 21-year-old student was seen dead in the room of Tapti hostel of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. The victim was a fourth-year B. Tech, an Aerospace Engineering student from Odisha.
Now, the unnatural death has been reported in second instance.
Further invetigations are underway.
