Kushinagar : Sanghamitra Maurya, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was charged for violene when she spoke out in favour of her father, Swami Prasad Maurya, a candidate for the Samajwadi Party (SP).

Maurya's convoy had been ambushed earlier in the day during a roadshow. Sanghamitra Maurya, her brother Ashok Maurya, and 30 others have been charged with rioting and looting cash and gold chains, according to BJP leader Deepraj Kharwar. Under the SC/ST Act, the case was filed.

Former Uttar Pradesh Minister Swami Prasad Maurya, who is running for the Samajwadi Party in Fazilnagar, said that his convoy was attacked by "BJP workers" during electioneering on Tuesday.
