Social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, suspended the Hebrew-language account of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday, just hours after it was created. The account, under the handle @Khamenei_Heb, was reportedly taken down following a post that stated, “The Zionist regime made a mistake. It erred in its calculations on Iran. We will cause it to understand what kind of strength, ability, initiative, and will the Iranian nation has.” Now, the account displays a message stating it was suspended for “violating X’s rules.”
A Day-Old Account Removed After Initial Post
Khamenei’s Hebrew account went live on Saturday night, representing an uncommon outreach to Israeli audiences. The first post on the account was a religious invocation, “In the name of Allah, the most merciful.” Shortly afterward, Khamenei’s post with critical statements directed toward Israel was removed, and X provided no official response. While X’s policies generally prohibit posts from “violent and hateful entities,” it does permit certain governmental accounts under specific circumstances, sparking debate over its approach to Khamenei’s post.
Reactions from Israeli Groups on Social Media
Following Khamenei’s initial post, ZAKA, an Israeli emergency organization, responded with a line from the Jewish Kaddish prayer, a subtle hint of defiance. Khamenei’s Hebrew statement also appeared on his English-language account, Khamenei.ir, where it remained accessible to a broader audience and continued to convey a warning toward Israel.
Israeli Strikes Target Iranian Military Sites
The suspension of Khamenei’s account comes amid Israeli military actions targeting Iranian sites. In a recent operation termed “Days of Repentance,” Israel conducted airstrikes early Saturday on multiple Iranian military facilities, including sites linked to missile and drone production. Reports indicate that over 20 targets were struck, causing significant disruption to Iran’s missile and drone infrastructure. These attacks partly served as retaliation for an incident on October 1, where Iran launched 180 ballistic missiles toward Israel, triggering rocket alerts throughout Israeli territory.
Reports of Iran Preparing for Khamenei’s Succession
Amid growing tensions, reports suggest that Iran may be preparing for a succession, given Khamenei’s age and reported health challenges at 85. Speculation over his possible successors has intensified, further complicating the region’s geopolitical landscape.
Neither Iranian nor Israeli officials have commented on Khamenei’s suspended account or the recent airstrikes.
