Chennai: Tamil Nadu schools reopen for classes 1 to 8 today, November 1, after a nearly 20-month hiatus. Several schools have reopened, while others have decided to postpone students' return to offline classes. M K Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, handed out books to students in Chennai on Monday as schools reopened for students in grades 1 to 8. In Tamil Nadu, schools for grades 1 to 8 began today, nearly 600 days after they first opened.

On this occasion, CM Stalin also visited a government corporation school in Guindy, Chennai, where he distributed chocolate and books to students. He also checked the cleanliness of the school grounds, examined a mask and sanitization procedure, and advised teachers and school staff to follow COVID-19 SoPs.

Meanwhile, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, the state's school education minister, said the state government has prepared safety measures and standard operating procedures to reopen schools for Classes 1 to 8 on November 1 and has asked schools to adhere to the protocol. He also stated that KG and playschool classes would not be resumed. After the Covid-19 outbreak in March 2020, the primary class students have not attended physical education classes.
